Description

A simple, elegant bowl mat in an oval shape, giving the dog's food and water bowls a place of their own — and the floor a little protection from spilled water droplets and crumbs.

Braided in natural fibres, the mat is built up in calm rings from the centre outwards, creating a fine, solid-toned relief. The light sand colour is entirely neutral and blends discreetly into the floor, suiting both the Scandinavian and the more rustic home. The oval shape leaves plenty of room for two bowls side by side.

The braided surface is sturdy and holds the bowls in place. The mat is easily kept clean by shaking it out or vacuuming it, and smaller marks can be wiped gently with a damp cloth.

Braided

The story behind it

Why I designed it

Why I designed it

Dogs are messy eaters. But that doesn't mean their dining space has to be. Watching Alba scatter kibble across the kitchen floor every single morning, I wanted something that could handle the mess without looking like it was there to handle mess. The Staey Bowl Mat was created to keep floors clean while still looking beautiful in the home — a subtle way to add function without compromising on the way your home feels.

What it took to get it right

What it took to get it right

We shaped the mat around two bowls, then built it from natural jute braided by hand into dense, continuous rows — the same technique used for traditional braided rugs, which is what gives it the weight and durability to stay put under a hungry dog. The braid has enough texture to grip the bowls and hold crumbs and droplets in place instead of letting them travel across the floor. Finding a weave that was tight enough to be practical, yet soft enough in colour and structure to belong in a living room, took several rounds of samples. Care is simple: shake it out or vacuum it, and wipe smaller marks gently with a damp cloth.

Why customers love it

Why customers love it

It's warm and looks like something you'd choose for the room — not something you tolerate for the dog. The braided surface catches the crumbs and water droplets that would otherwise end up on the floor, and gives your dog a defined, tidy eating zone of their own. Natural fibres, natural tones, and a shape that finally makes the feeding corner look intentional.

Designer & Founder

My story

Hi, I’m Noa – designer and founder of Staey. I live in Denmark with my dog Alba, and I started Staey because I was tired of choosing between functionality and aesthetics.

Every Staey design starts with real moments from my life with my own Alba. I sketch the first ideas at my kitchen table, and my team and I test, tweak and adjust until it works – for your dog and for you. Because practical can (and should) look beautiful.
